Founding
Urban Action grew out of God's to Jerry and Mavis Nkosi in 1981 and their concern and compasion for urban youth. Applying a grassroots approach towards reaching the next generation for Christ. Working with local churches and Christian organizations, we set out to build a ministry that would serve as a beacon of light in an otherwise dark and dreary place.
With the help of several concerned men and women, Bible Clubs were started in neighborhood homes and community centers in the inner city. Young people came to identify our clubs as a place where they could find refuge from the sometimes-harsh realities in which the found themselves.
Summer camps, sports teams and weekly meetings kept the kids coming. When they came, they were met with gentle, loving adults who cared about their spiritual, physical and emotional well being.
Urban Action continues to serve in communities where positive images are hard to find. We are constantly searching for ways to reach youth and their families for God's Kingdom.
